Compreender como a motivação e o engajamento se relacionam durante o processo de aprendizagem — especificamente na aprendizagem de matemática — é um dos desafios atuais nos estudos relacionados às ciências cognitivas, em particular nas ciências da aprendizagem. O objetivo deste relatório foi caracterizar as perspectivas empregadas na pesquisa sobre essa relação. Para isso, foi realizada uma busca abrangente nas bases de dados Web of Science e Scopus, cobrindo o período de 2013 a 2023, com critérios de inclusão centrados na área de conhecimento, investigações em educação matemática, artigos publicados em inglês em revistas especializadas e estudos que abordassem a motivação e o engajamento em matemática. Aplicando esses critérios, foram identificados nove artigos relevantes utilizando o pacote estatístico Bibliometrix no software R. Posteriormente, foi realizada uma análise detalhada manual de cada artigo. Os resultados mostram que predominam estudos multidimensionais que integram diversas dimensões da motivação e do engajamento, sendo em sua maioria de caráter transversal e explicativo. Essa tendência limita a compreensão da evolução desses constructos nos estudantes. Os achados evidenciam a necessidade de realizar estudos longitudinais que permitam analisar como a motivação e o engajamento se desenvolvem ao longo do tempo. Além disso, destacase a importância de empregar técnicas qualitativas, como entrevistas ou análise de vídeos, que vão além dos autorrelatos e permitam observar as ações dos estudantes em situações de aprendizagem matemática.
