Abstract

This paper presents the results of master’s degree thesis which tried to analyze the teaching practices of a group of social sciences teachers in the Concejo de Medellin educational institution attended by students from sectors of high social vulnerability, with which the development of critical thinking and civic competences is feasible. Descriptive research whose data were collected through the application of semi-structured interviews and focus groups. As a result, and although the practices were framed in the traditional and the constructivist, the student attends routines where the reproductive work predominates, reason why the development of critical thinking and civic competences are addressed as specific topics at a certain moment of the academic year, exempting them to be a cross-curricular process that links all the areas of knowledge.
