Historias de ciudad: el temascal de don Ricardo García; una mirada a su discurso desde la eficacia simbólica

Abstract

Objective. The purpose of this article is to analyze the temascalero discourse in order to understand the processes involved in a temascal ceremonial. To achieve this purpose, the Antropologist Levi Strauss was addressed on order to understand the meaning of this ancient ritual. Methodology. The methodology used was participant observation, plus the human interest story. Therefore, it was necessary for the researcher to actively participate in the ritual so that he could observe the temascalero behavior. Results and conclusion. In short, through the symbolic efficacy it is possible to establish the bond the temascalero pretends the participants achieve in the ritual, taking into consideration that there is a group of people that approve the ceremony. Similarly, they participate using the items laid out to carry on the ceremony and they acknowledge the existence of ancient wisdom for this practice to be valid as the means to find physical, mental and spiritual healing.
