Abstract

This article aims to explain various approaches that construct the categories of social design by analyzing their relationships in the Latin American context. The main antecedents that have generated changes in the practices and fields of action of design, positioning it as a profession centered in the human being and focused on acting on diverse problems that afflict the society, are presented. In this way, a trajectory that begins showing the tensions between consumption and sustainability is presented, continuing with the exploration of its influence in design with special emphasis on Latin American design, which states from other latitudes, a social practice that claims to be addressed to and studied. This reflection was elaborated through the review of bibliographical sources in the exercise of a doctoral research with a view to constructing a state of the art on social design.
