La prevalencia de anticuerpos contra Toxoplasma gondii en 300 humanos sin contacto con caninos 306 propietarios de caninos y sus respectivos animales fueron evaluados en la ciudad de Manizales (Caldas - Colombia) mediante la detección de anticuerpos IgG por medio de la prueba Inmunofluorescencia Indirecta (IFI), los resultados obtenidos muestran una prevalencia de 44%, 32.4% y 40.5% respectivamente. No hubo significancia estadística respecto a la edad, la raza y el sexo en los caninos, pero el resultado muestra un aumento creciente en la prevalencia con relación a la edad en los humanos (p<0,05). No se estableció una relación en cuanto a la transmisión mecánica de la infección de los caninos al hombre, tampoco el consumo de carne cruda o mal cocida representó un factor de riesgo significativo para adquirir la toxoplasmosis. Las razas Rottweiler, Pitbull y Mestizo mostraron la más alta tasa de seropositividad dentro de las nueve razas más comunes de la ciudad. Este estudio demostró que la tenencia de perro no es un factor de riesgo para la adquisición de la toxoplasmosis.
