Abstract

This text is the result of the research project entitled “Analysis of Jurgen Habermas’ proposal about the role of religion in the public sphere: Three case-law cases of the Colombian Constitutional Court”. Objective: This research aimed to determine Habermas’ proposal soundness based on the role of religion in the public sphere. Methodology: This research product presents the conceptual and hermeneutic reconstruction of Habermas’ perspective about the role of religion in the public sphere, especially in relation to the philosophical category of “the political”. Results: It will be shown that, according to Habermas’ argumentation in his most recent philosophical work, the notion of the political can have a valuable place inside the political theory of democracy. Conclusion: The risks, problems and advantages of keeping such a controversial notion will also be evidenced.
