Abstract

Abstract

Gyorgy Kepes, possibly the first contemporary “visual designer”, inspired the name of the study group that supports and originates this journal. The Kepes study group bases its guidance on studying the dialogue on the science of vision, image, representation and cognition. Recognizing his contributions to the study of the phenomenon of vision and for positioning the role of art in society, the journal in its academic and epistemological focus, with its name, pays a tribute to the memory of this important author, who was essential in training several generations of artists and designers in the 20th century. This article proposes a revision of the work and writings of Gyorgy Kepes, and shows the validity of his ideas, which emphasize the need to integrate art and design disciplines in a new environment, where artistic, cultural, human, scientific and technological values are integrated with an imaginative and ethical progress of society, matters that are still pending in contemporary times.
