Abstract

The lesions caused by dermatophytes have been considered as the most common skin pathologies. The clinical manifestations for this fungi group have been associated with the capacity to metabolize keratin; the type of molecules produced that induce inflammation, and, the degree of selective immunological suppression that may induce and that allow some fungi to hold out on the corneum stratum of the skin producing chronic manifestations or eventually no symptoms, but resulting in hipersensitivity reactions such as dermatophytides. With the aim to understand the patogenicity mechanisms and the epidemiology of the dermatophytoses, this review intetnts to describe the ecological characteristics, the virulence factors, the epidemiology, the predisposing factors and the new treatment therapies of these diseases.
