Objetive: To reconstruct the sociohistorical trajectory of the sexually diverse movement or LBGTI, in Costa Rica, based on its organizational dynamics and relevant participants that have influenced it over the last decades. Materials and methods: The qualitative research carried out addresses the tensions and contradictions configured between the movement and the antagonistic sectors. As part of the techniques developed are documentary analysis and content analysis. The information collected was analyzed through hermeneutic triangulation. Discussion: It deepens in the contextual elements that allow describing the main political, economic, social and cultural scenarios in which the social movement has been organized since its emergence in the eighties. Conclusions: Based on the elements indicated, the insurgent character of the LGBTI movement is highlighted, where different positions and political projects converge, which allows describing the network of relationships, alliances, consensus and advances.
