Abstract

To learn a foreign lexicon is to evidence its relative character. It allows the historian of science to understand the changes in meaning of the terms that implied untranslatability to terms of their current lexicon and change in their truth values, also, it allows him to establish overlaps with that incommensurable lexicon, and thus the comparability for the selection of theories required for scientific development. Kuhn (1992-1996) compares the historicist or relative character of his notion of lexicon with an a priori “constitutive” of the world similar to Kant’s forms of sensibility and categories of understanding; a priori that Kuhn sees implicit in the identification of protoobjects of the “neural system” at neonates, which was one of the last applications he made of the “no-overlapping” principle, pointing to an evolutionary perspective of his theory of incommensurability.
