Abstract

This article analyzes the formation of the Caldas society as a result of the Antioquia Colonization from its economic, social and cultural characteristics, with special emphasis on political periodization that has had two major milestones: the emergence of the azucenos (lilies) and the grecocaldenses in their first phase, and their later replacement by the so-called barrococaldenses. Thus, one can notice the changes that the political customs in Caldas have gone through, and that after twenty-five years they still remain unchanged. This Caldas X-ray can, to some extent, be generalized to the rest of the country in its recent history of warlordism, cronyism and corruption. In order to understand the changes that have taken place, the juncture created by the withdrawal of entrepreneurs who led the economic development, and who were replaced by professional politicians was taken as a basis. With this purpose in mind, it is necessary to establish the characteristics of the Caldas economic development from the Antioquia Colonization and the nature of the leadership exercised by both azucenos and grecocaldenses, and the change result of the political control held by barrococaldenses from the so-called “Caldas theft”, situation that still remains.
