Abstract
This essays is about the history of interethnic relationships in western Caldas from the prehispanic times to our days framed inside a national context. It focuses on the 1991 Constitution which grants rights to the minoritarian indigenous groups through the resguardos. Nevertheless, the resguardos divides the exploited people by granting more rights to the indigenous than to the peasants, even tough their differences are nothing but formal in certain places and their unity is a need to confront the politics of the state.
