Abstract

Migration and integration into a new cultural environment drive forward the emergence of new interpretative patterns within the migrating groups the latter stimulate a gradual invalidation of the traditional culture of the migrants in the new residential areas which are also responsible for identity reconfigurations. Migrants not only experiment new needs, search for new satisfactories, but also change their perspective of time and space. Although these processes are mainly kept unconscious, they can be observed through their use of language. This article pretends to explore the reconfiguration of the social imaginary of a group of indigenous migrants who moved from their homeland in the southern of Mexico to the Metropolitan Area of Monterrey in the northeast.
