Abstract
The socio-environmental crisis in which the planet is immersed is highlighting, more and more starkly, the consequences of globalization: socio-educational, hygienic-sanitary, economic, environmental, etc. inequalities are accentuated. These issues necessarily raise a new way to understand and relate to the planet in which education plays an essential role. Objectives: This study aims, on the one hand, at knowing the perception elementary school students participating in the educational program "Olvera is green" have about the environment and the relationship of human beings with it once the program is finished and, on the other hand, at assessing the satisfaction of the students with the training they have received. Materials and Methods: The research adopted a mixed approach. The sessions of the program were monitored, discussion groups were held and a questionnaire was administered at the end of the experience. The participants were 88 students from the Elementary Education stage of two schools in the town of Olvera (Cádiz, Spain). Results: The analysis of the results revealed some significant aspects that could be useful for the improvement of this type of educational experience. The results obtained show that the program favors the integration of socio-environmental issues in the school context, favoring environmental education and citizenship education and instilling civic values through its contents. Conclusions: The implementation of this type of program favors the integration of socio-environmental issues in the school context. However, it has been detected that students at this stage still relate the concept of the environment to that of the natural environment, and it is necessary for future research to explore how to move from the concept of natural environment to that of social environment.
