Resumen

Este artículo examina críticamente las implicaciones del holismo semántico en la obra de Thomas Kuhn y su relevancia para el problema de la inconmensurabilidad entre teorías científicas. Aunque a menudo se lo considera un aliado, el holismo en realidad presenta un gran desafío para Kuhn. Se identifican dos variantes de este problema con respuestas explícitas proporcionadas por Kuhn para la primera variante, pero ninguna respuesta directa para la segunda. La primera variante del problema es la imposibilidad de comunicación entre hablantes con diferencias doxásticas. Kuhn propone la adopción de la tesis del holismo local como solución a la primera variante. La segunda variante se refiere a la adopción indeseada de la distinción analítico/sintético. Sostengo que la solución a la segunda variante implica conectar el significado con la resolución de problemas. Propongo la aceptación o rechazo de enunciados contrafácticos como criterio para establecer referentes compartidos.
