Abstract

ABSTRACT: In the present study the frequency of Leptospirosis in 200 dogs treated in veterinary clinics of Manizales city, was determined with the aid of the Microscopic Aglutination Test (MAT).  Each serum  was confronted to six leptospira serovars (icterohaemorrhagiae, grippotyphosa, canicola, pomona, bratislava and hardjo). The results showed that 20.5% of the tested dogs were positive for Leptospirosis, of which the majority reacted to the serovars, icterohaemorrhagiae, grippotyphosa and canicola. Most of these serums had titles of between 1/100 and > 1/400. The results presented in this study do not show a significant difference in relation to gender, origin (urban/rural), breed or vaccination status.
