ABSTRACT
The Research Cartographic Method consists of the application of maps for the description, analysis and study of the phenomena, with the objective to obtain new knowledge, characteristics and research of its spatial interrelations and their prediction. The practical and scientific application of the maps fulfills five functions: communicative, operative, constructive, cognoscitive and predictive. This research method is based on the map analysis, like the time-space models of reality. For the study of the phenomena plotted on the maps different types of analysis are applied: visual, cartometric, graphical and mathematical. The Research Cartographic Method employs different options from the use of maps: direct analysis of independent maps, comparative analysis of maps of different topics for one territory, comparative analysis of maps from different times for the same territory, comparative study of Analog maps, related analysis with the transformation of the cartographic representation, disintegration of cartographic representation in the components. The latter serves to better comprehend the study of different natural and socioeconomic phenomena in diverse scientific researches, considering that maps are temporal and spatial models of reality.
