Abstract
The purpose of this rcsearch was to determine blood pressure avera ges by groups of age and sex in relation to age, weight, heiglit and pulse.
The prescnt paper shows charts with average figures of blood prcssure intended for being used as a referencc in the asscssement of arterial pressure in populations of children and youngsters ranking be tween 6 and 18 ycars of age. The work was carried out due to the lack of standardized charts filling the physical, socioeconomic, cultural and emotio nal characteristics of such a population.
The rcscarch desing was of descriptivc analytical transversal type. Thc sampling of 1.664 estudents of both scxes and between 6 and 18 years of age and belonging to both private and public school status distributed in 52 subgrups of 32 students each.
It was also found that blood prcssure figures increased progressiveley with age for both sexes; it is lower in mcn than in women, up to 14 and l7 years of age, for de sistolic and diastolic respectively. From these ages on, it keeps on increasing for men and it becomes stable for women.
The arte rial pressure is correlated more with age and weight. As to height the re was a low correlation and none whit the pulse parameter.
