Abstract

Quine's question: "what is there?" has a peculiar characteristic in current physics, specially when we give attention to the concept of "physical entity" or "physical object", about what physical theories say something, at least ideally. In so far as physics deals with the ultimate constituents of matter, the problem of physical objects get in the picture. Although current physics does not deal with ontology but of the explanation of how the world is the way it is, ontological questions are of interest for the philosopher, who should be familiarized with the situation of actual science and cannot ignore current theories unless hez wants to limit himself to speculation.
