Abstract
This research addresses the study of self-medication in children up to two years of age seeking to identify how scientific literature approaches and characterizes this process, through scientific articles published in the period 2009-2019. For this purpose, a scope review was carried out that included the selection of articles published in the bibliographic databases Scopus, Pubmed, Lilacs and Scielo. Through the analysis of 132 articles, it was found that health institutions were the settings where most of the data were collected (48.8%) and mothers were the main informants. The diseases/health problems most addressed, in relation to self-medication, were those linked to the respiratory system (37.4%) and infectious and parasitic diseases (19.3%). Medicines of allopathic origin were studied more widely than the use of phytomedicines, herbal or traditional medicines. This work examines the considerations that must be taken into account when analyzing the self-medication process in children, depending on the methodological designs implemented for their analysis.
