Abstract

Abstract: The inadequate use of the terminology is a main cause of the generalized disinformation regarding drugs. This phenomenon occurs with great intensity in some peripheral societies, with little experience in the production or consumption of psychoactive substances, as the case of Uruguay. In the country a favorable atmosphere has been created to the indiscriminate prohibition of any substance that is catalogued as a “drug” by the official speech and mass media. Some attempts to change the approach of some civil employees of the successive governments and organizations of civil society were somewhat successful, but they didn’t modify the effective legislation, nor the police procedures, whose application has consequences opposed to those wanted, and ends up promoting substances of greater toxicity and problematic social conducts in teenagers.
