Abstract
The objective of this article is to advise the sponsor on what can be a better sponsorship model based on a therapeutic, humanistic schema of the Centralized Approach by Carl Rogers and Gestalt Psychotherapy by Fritz Perls. Likewise, it intends to show how the sponsorship process in Alcoholics Anonymous, which has proven to be the best way to facilitate recovery of the newly arrived alcoholic. The new member is then sponsored by another alcoholic with more experience who guides him/her the time necessary until they are identified with the program. In order to carry out this sponsorship, AA offers a pamphlet as a guideline with very general recommendations, which has allowed abuse of AA members acting as sponsors, in terms of power, money and others, thus delaying and obstructing their recovery. In some cases, the alcoholic might not have enough will to recover at AA. Not understanding what AA is, and not feeling some kind of interest at the beginning, can mean that some members might abandon their recovery. However, the sponsor does accomplish these functions: informing the new member what AA is; helping him/her to have hope about being in the world, and guiding him/her to better their relations with others.
