Abstract
Drug abuse, considered a public health issue by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the different efforts to solve it, has become the center of a social dynamic called drug addiction and its policies. The objective of this study is to identify the risk factors involved in drug consumption present in the school context of 7 to 12 year old children. A specially designed survey was used for said purpose based on the pedagogic model “Education in Life Abilities”, a WHO initiative in 1993, as well as the risk factors and protection factors theory. The survey was analyzed by means of the logistic regression technique, with final results (p = 0,0000001, OR: 3, IC: 2-4,3, t = 5,7, B = 1,1). The relationship with the teacher and interest in school, were the two predominant elements that influenced drug abuse among children in the study sample; the first being a protector factor, while the second, was a risk factor. The teacher, their love for their profession, the pressure put on by the parents, and the unrecognition of the pedagogic labor, are elements that could solve the schoolrelated problems in conjunction with the ongoing p0rocesses, and specifically, those related with drug consumption prevention programs.
