Abstract

ABSTRACT: Colic in pregnant and periparturient mares may be due to disorders affecting primarily the gastrointestinal tract or the reproductive system. It may difficult to distinguish between gastrointestinal and reproductive causes of abdominal pain. Problems associated with the reproductive system include those linked to the uterus, such as uterine torsion, contractions associated with expulsion of the fetal membranes, prolepses, tears and arterial hemorrhagic. However, with exception of uterine torsion in the last trimester, the uterus is rarely the source of moderate to severe pain in pregnant mares. The main objective of this paper is to describe a case of uterine torsion in a Colombian mare.
