Abstract

ABSTRACT: The use of osteosynthesis plates made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) as a method of fixation in shaft fractures of long bones in dogs was evaluated clinically and radiologically. Six crossbred dogs with an average weight of 10.9 kilograms and clinical presentation of long bone fracture in one of its limbs were used. Four X-rays were taken for each case in the following order: preoperative, postoperative, weeks four and eight, in addition to daily clinical monitoring. Under the conditions of this work, this type of PVC plates does not generate any tissue reaction under clinical examination or radiological assessment. This material could be used as an alternative in the resolution of long bone fractures in dogs with a body weight less than 10 kilograms.
