Abstract

ABSTRACT: The present study was carried out in order to determine the relationship between the insulin and cortisol follicular levels in ovarian follicles of different sizes and the events of the estrous cycle in female ovines. Follicular fluid of ovine ovaries from 100 crossbred Pantaneiras females was collected and evaluated for hormonal determination by radioimmune test using commercial kits. The values obtained were analyzed by means of ANOVA and Tukey test. Insulin showed significant differences between follicles (P<0.000001), as their diameter increased, while cortisol did not present any significant changes in relation to follicular size (P>0.05). In conclusion, ovine ovarian follicles had decreasing insulin and constant cortisol concentrations, in relation to size and development.
