Abstract
ABSTRACT: The domestic cat is considered the chromosomal model for the Felidae family being its 2n = 38, and FN = 72. All the chromosomal complement is distributed in somatic chromosomes with six groups (A-F), and the sex pair which is highly uniform. The E1 pair is the chromosomal marker of the family that has a secondary constriction (satellite) in the short arm. The X chromosome is similar in size and shape in all species. The banding patterns are very similar in the A1, A2, A3 pairs, B group, and the sexual pair. The chromosomal differences are greater in groups C, E and F. These modifications have occurred at expenses of acrocentric chromosomes. The present review offers an outlook of the chromosomal structure of the Felidae family in order to offer reference points for future researches on this topic.
