Resumen

RESUMO: A estacionalidade reprodutiva em ovelhas e cabras é a maior limitante no melhoramento produtivo. O controle da estacionalidade em ovelhas é uma importante ferramenta no seu manejo. Vários tratamentos tem sido propostos para o controle da estacionalidade. O melhoramento da eficiência reprodutiva mediante a indução da sincronização pode ser acompanhado de tratamentos hormonais que incluem gonadotropinas, progestagenos e agentes luteolíticos como a prostaglandina  F2α. A sincronização do estro é aplicada eficientemente nas técnicas de reprodução assistida tales como a inseminação artificial e a transferência de embriões em pequenos ruminantes. A sincronização do estro em pequenos ruminantes é caracterizada por reduzir a duração da fase luteal do ciclo estral com prostagandinas F2α ou por extender-a com progesterona exógena ou progestagenos potentes. O uso da prostaglandina tem sido limitado a estação reprodutiva (corpo luteo ativo), partindo disto diferentes protocolos para a sincronização do estro usando progesrerona ou progestágenos tem sido introducidos. A impregnação de esponjas intravaginais com progestágenos tem sido amplamente usados em ovelhas e cabras para o controle do estrous e da ovulação durante a estação reprodutiva e não reprodutiva. O  dispositivo interno liberador de hormônios (CIDR) tem sido efetivo no controle do estro e da ovulação em ovelhas. Em pequenos ruminantes, o CIDR unido com a gonadotrofina coriônica eqüina (eCG) tem sido regularmente usado nos programas de IATF. O objetivo desta revisão foi avaliar a eficiência dos métodos mais utilizados para a sincronização do estro em fêmeas ovinas e sua variação na resposta ovariana, fertilidade e concentrações hormonais.
