Abstract
this article exposes the trajectory regarding the process of configuration of homosexual parenthood in men who were fathers in previous heterosexual relationships. He realizes their tensions, adjustments, expectations and challenges that they had to go through to assume a comprehensive parenthood that does not exclude them from their sexual orientation. In-depth interviews were conducted with 13 gay men from Santiago de Chile in times of pandemic, who recounted the transition they experienced between their sexual disclosure to their sons and daughters, the dualities related to homosexuality and fatherhood. Emotional tensions associated with internalized homophobia were found in the participants as a result of identity conflicts, initial perceptions of exclusion from fatherhood to homosexual life and fears of social stigmatization. Despite everything, the participants declare that they manage to integrate homosexuality and fatherhood with the support of their sons and daughters, incorporating
models of “involved fatherhood.”
