Policies

Publication and authorship

The journal Hacia la Promoción de la Salud receives original contributions in the form of articles and reviews. The articles can be of scientific and technological research, reflection or review. The Journal is directed to all those natural or legal persons with interest in the different areas of the health sector. Likewise, its purpose is to socialize the academic, research, projection and teaching experiences of teachers, students, undergraduate and postgraduate graduates, professionals in the health, social and related areas of the country and the world who contribute to the development of the following topics: conceptualization on health and life; public health; health education; healthy lifestyles; social communication in health; social marketing; orientation of health services; healthy public policies; environments favorable to health; negotiation and conflict management; social participation; strategic alliances; social and human development; social sciences and health; social determinants and social determination.

If the author of an article wishes to include it later in another publication, the journal where it is published must clearly indicate the data of the original publication, with prior authorization requested from the Editor of the journal.

For its part, the Journal reserves the right to print, reproduce all or part of the material, as well as the right to accept or reject it. Likewise, it reserves the right to make any editorial modification it deems convenient. In this case, the author will receive written recommendations from the Editorial Committee. If the author accepts them, he/she must deliver the article with the suggested adjustments within the dates established by the Journal to guarantee the editing process.

The Journal does not accept previously published material. Authors are responsible for obtaining the appropriate permissions to partially reproduce material (text, tables or figures) from other publications and for properly citing the source. The contributions that appear here do not necessarily reflect the thinking of the Journal. They are published under the responsibility of the authors.

Peer review process

Each of the articles received is submitted to a review and selection process. The Editorial Committee is in charge of the study and initial selection of the papers, which accepts or rejects the originals according to the scientific quality, the concordance with the journal's own topics and the temporal validity of the results. In addition, the Editorial Committee may request modifications and make recommendations deemed necessary to adjust the document to the indications of the journal. After this review, it will be submitted to double-blind evaluation by two academic peers external to the affiliation of the authors, who will issue a concept that can be: approved without changes, approved subject to minor changes and does not require further evaluation, approved subject to major changes and requires further evaluation; and rejected, not publishable in the Journal. In the event that controversies arise from the evaluators' concept, these will be initially resolved by the Editor or, if necessary, a second or third evaluation by academic peers will be requested.

The evaluation process requires the anonymity of both the authors and the evaluators. Likewise, this evaluation will be informed to the author of the article via e-mail, so that he/she can make the necessary adjustments requested by the evaluators. Upon receipt of the article with the corrections made, the Journal will verify compliance with the reviewers' suggestions and will analyze the justifications for those that have not been taken into account. Once this phase has been approved, the article will be sent again to the author to make any necessary adjustments. The process of review and acceptance of the material submitted may take an average of four months, and its receipt does not imply its automatic approval and publication.

Authorship policy

The Journal only accepts articles with a maximum of five authors. Only those persons who have contributed intellectually to the development of the manuscript should appear in the list of authors. Having helped in the collection of data or having participated in any technique are not, by themselves, sufficient criteria to be listed as an author. In general, to be listed as an author, the following requirements must be met:

  • To have participated in the conception and realization of the work that has resulted in the article as such.
  • To have participated in the drafting of the text and any possible revisions to it.
  • To have approved the version that will finally be published.

The Journal declines any responsibility for possible conflicts derived from the authorship of the papers published.

The Hacia la Promoción de la Salud journal adheres to COPE guidelines (Committee on Publication Ethics) (http://publicationethics.org/files/u2/New_Code.pdf).

Transfer of copyrights

The "Declaration of Authors' Commitment" form, signed by each of the authors, should be sent together with the article.

The judgments and opinions expressed by the authors in the articles and communications published in the journal are the exclusive responsibility of the authors and do not reflect the criteria or policies of the Editorial Committee, the Journal m> or the institution that publishes them.

Publication rights

If the article is accepted for publication, the reproduction rights will belong to the Universidad de Caldas. As mentioned, each article must be accompanied by the authors' declaration of commitment form in which it is specified that it is unpublished, indicating that the reproduction rights are the exclusive property of the Journal, in addition to other aspects that are explicit in the document such as its non-simultaneous submission for publication in another journal. On the other hand, the author is responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions to reproduce any material protected by reproduction rights and must clearly specify which table, figure or text will be cited and the complete bibliographic reference.

Conflict of interest

The Journal expects authors to declare any commercial association that may involve a conflict of interest in connection with the submitted article.

Due to the nature of the articles that may eventually be published in the journal, it is possible that there may be conflicting interests that may affect the impartiality in the editorial conditions or with respect to the authors; therefore, each author must make an effort to identify them.

In this way, the authors must attach, together with the article and the declaration of commitment, a communication addressed to the journal expressing clearly and concisely whether there are conflicts of interest, specifying each one of them. In this communication, they must also specify the source of funding for the research carried out, as well as the declaration of any commercial, financial or personal relationship that may affect the article or the publishing institution.

Article retraction policy

Regarding the eventuality of retraction of publications included in the Journal, which consists of the possibility of invalidating or annulling, totally or partially, what was previously said or included in any issue of the Journal, Universidad de Caldas establishes the following policy.

The journal Hacia la Promoción de la Salud strictly adheres to the guidelines given by the COPE, regarding the grounds for retraction of articles published in the journal; in view of this, general grounds for retraction will be general grounds for retraction of publications:

  • Non-compliance with requirements in the editorial process.
  • The proven falsity of the information and with which the editorial process was carried out.
  • Verification of bad editorial practices on the part of the authors.
  • Failure to comply with the ethical principles that should have been observed.
  • Deliberately including imprecise or inaccurate information.

Retraction, as the action of retracting, reducing or renouncing something, expresses the power of the author of a work or article to express his will to disavow or renounce what has been previously said or consigned and is manifested in a practical way, and in the possibility of the author to make it known to his readers by the same means by which the article or work he renounces was made known. Retraction is a personal fact, derived from the autonomy of the author's will and from his thought and reflection processes.

Retraction procedure

For cases of retraction under which it is intended to invalidate or cancel, in whole or in part, what was previously said or included in any issue of the Journal, as well as to retract or renounce a work, article or opinion, the author or third party with proven legal interests who intends to make use of this policy must send a written communication to the Editor of the journal; in which, making use of his or her capacity as author or sending evidence of his or her legal interest in the request, as the case may be, he or she shall state the arguments and provide the evidence necessary to request the retraction, specifying the scope of the retraction. In the case of retraction, the author shall send the retraction note to be included for consideration by the Editor and the Editorial Committee.

After the above, and once the documents sent have been verified -or after verifying the author's status in the case of retraction-, within a period of no more than 10 working days, the Editor will proceed to present the case before the Editorial Committee, who will deliberate and decide by vote, under a simple majority (half plus one), on the request; if accepted, it will be processed within a period of no more than 30 working days.

There shall be no appeal against the decision; however, the applicant or any other person with a legitimate interest in the subject matter may again request the retraction or retraction, as the case may be, and provide or improve the evidence previously provided. Any member of the Editorial Committee may request and process the retraction procedure. In the case of retraction, only the authors or rights holders may make the request.

Once it is decided whether the retraction or retraction is appropriate, as the case may be, it will be included in the next issue of the published Journal, provided that it is still editorially possible; otherwise, it will be included in the next issue. In the case of retraction, the note provided by the author will be included.

Procedure for duplication

For the duplication of texts, which consists of the possibility of copying or reproducing textually, one or more times, a content or literary work, in a new medium (digital or any other format), the Journal follows the following general procedure: all editorial material, for which duplication has been requested or determined, shall be headed with a legend that clearly identifies its quality as a duplicate and differentiates it from the original.

To carry out this type of reproduction, the applicant must fill out the internal duplication request form and send it to the journal's mailing address (view format). The form must be filled out by the person responsible for the procedure, even when the journal itself determines the need for it.

Procedure for incorporation of erratum

The erratum, for the Journal's publications, should be understood as the usual method of editing and subsequent correction of any article, by means of which all errors that have been detected in an issue of the journal are corrected. For this procedure, it should be taken into account that, if only a part of the article contains an error, it can be rectified later by means of an editorial note or an erratum.

In the event that an author or any third party, including the journal's staff, discovers a serious error in the publication, he/she must communicate it in writing and accurately to the Editorial Committee in order to correct it through the "erratum".

To carry out this type of corrections to editorial material, once the occurrence of the fact and the way to solve it have been determined, the erratum will be included in one of the initial pages of the next issue of the magazine; provided that it is still editorially possible; otherwise, it will be included in the following edition.

Procedure for dealing with originality and plagiarism

For the purposes of this policy, originality must be considered from two perspectives: first, as the certainty that the work comes from the person who claims to be its author; second, that it is novel and different from others created previously. The concept of plagiarism also refers to the fact that the work or article is distinguishable from unauthorized copies, forgeries or derivations or from the unauthorized or inappropriate use of fragments of other works.

It is the authors' responsibility to ensure the originality of the articles submitted to the journal, as well as the veracity of the data and results included in them, expressing clearly and concisely that contents are original and have not been copied, invented, distorted or manipulated.

Plagiarism or unauthorized use of third party content, in all its forms, is totally rejected by the Journal; likewise, multiple or redundant publication is considered a serious breach of ethics. The journal makes use of Turniting software that yields a percentage of coincidences with other publications in the field.

Authors shall refrain from submitting to the Journal, texts that have been submitted at the same time for consideration in another journal; it is possible to publish contents that expand on others already published or under consideration, as long as the text on which it is based is duly cited.

As in the case of retraction, in the event of plagiarism or unauthorized use of third-party content, the complainant shall send a written communication to the Editor in which he/she shall explain the arguments and provide the necessary evidence for his/her complaint. After the above, and once the documents sent have been verified, within a period of no more than 10 working days, the Editor will proceed to present the case to the Editorial Committee, who will decide on its real and effective occurrence; they will also inform the respective authorities or the affected parties, as the case may be.

Conflict of interest events with evaluators

It is the responsibility of the internal and external evaluators of the Journal to declare any conflict of interest that may arise in relation to the works submitted for their consideration.

A conflict of interest arises when, in the case of a work submitted for consideration by an evaluator or members of the editorial team, there is a direct personal or professional relationship or enmity with the author, or a relationship of any kind with the research that gave rise to it, as well as a profound moral or ethical conflict with the subject under review. In general, members of the editorial team and external evaluators must refrain from reviewing works when they incur in any of these or similar situations.

The journal's editorial team will refrain from selecting reviewers against whom they are aware that they are or may be affected by any of the above-mentioned situations.

Confidentiality statement for reviewers

Always, without exception, whoever evaluates or reviews a work submitted to the Journal must consider it as totally confidential until its publication; therefore, it will not be possible to reveal any aspect of its content or personal opinions during the entire review process and until the publication is finished.

It is clear that, in no case, it is possible to make public or use the information under consideration, as well as details, arguments or interpretations contained in the text under review, neither for your own benefit or that of third parties. Only in special and duly justified cases may the advice of experts in the field be used, a circumstance that must be reported to the Journal.

Ethical aspects

Where relevant, an explanation of the procedures followed in the research to ensure compliance with the principles and ethical standards of the 1975 Declaration of Helsinki and subsequent revisions should be included.
