Abstract
In this essay the author focuses the attention on the necessity that Western culture generates clear symbols on the concept of “health”. Taking the theory of “memas” as a basis, it recaptures the hypotheses that have marked milestones in some moments of the history of thought; under the premise that, in all type of knowledge, there is a deep component of symbolism. The latter expresses how health has become a consumption good that little has to do with the welfare and puts the makes society responsible for the construction of this symbol.
