Abstract
This paper presents a preliminary list of Saturniidae for the region of the Alto Chocó (Colombia). It presents the results of several nights of light trapping that were carried out in August and October 2002, between 1200 and 1500 m of elevation. A total of 59 species of Saturniidae were found during this sampling, including 25 endemics of the Pacific region of the North West of the Andean Cordillera. The results are compared to those of previous studies carried out in other localities of the same bio geographic region. The importance of the North West Andean region for the conservation of the Saturniidae fauna at the national and international is discussed.
