Abstract

The Scarabaeoidea beetles of the Dynastini tribe make up 10 genera and approximately 60 species distributed mainly in the tropical regions of the world, stand out due to their gigantic from and their conspicuous horns. In the Neotropical region there are Golofa, Dynastes and Megasoma genus, all of which have species distributed all along Colombia, specially  in jungle areas. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to enumerate the species of Dynastini beetles (Coleoptera-Scarabaeoidea) of the biogeographical Chocó, Colombia. The. information was obtained from the revision of national collections, including the author's, field notes from larvae and adults collected by the author, and revision of taxonomical literature on the topic, especially catalogs, from the revision of the collections, the location, date, collector and the circumstances of collection were listed. This information was analyzed according to its numerical frequency in order to establish altitudinal and seasonal patterns. A list was drawn up containing 3 genus and 7 species of Dynastini in the biogeographical Chocó, as follows: Dynastes hercules L., and D. neptunus Quen. Megasoma janus Felsche and M. elephas Fab., Golofa porteri Hope, G. eacus Burm., and G. Antigua Arrow. Geographical and altitudinal recorás are included for each one. The destruction of forests is the biggest threat for the survival of these species therefore, it is recommended to carry out biological and demographical studies, as well as regional museological bases, in order to have a more in depth knowledge, to take better advantage and to better conserve these species.
