Abstract

The following article presents the first inventory of butterflies of the Papilionidae, Pieridae and Nymphalidae families of the department of Antioquia based on field work and compilation of information of biological collections. The first analysis of the collection of the Entomological Museum “Francisco Luis Gallego” (MEFLF by its Spanish abbreviation) was made based on the health index of the biological collections, according to the health levels proposed by the Research Institute of Biological Resources “Alexander von Humboldt”. A total of 575 species of butterflies were found, corresponding to 40 species of Papilionidae, 95 species of Pieridae and 440 species of Nymphalidae. The most common species and of greater distribution were Amathea Anartia, Anartia jatrophae, Clymena Diaethria marchalli and Danaus plexippus, some species of smaller distribution and considered rare for the study were: Castilia occidentalis, Catasticta sisamus, Charonias eurytele, Chlosyne narva, Cybdelis mnasylus, Dero Dircenna, Manuelita Dismorphia, Callitomia sp., Antirrhea geryon, Doxocopa zunilda felderi, Apexacuta orsedise, Gnathotriche exclamationis, Hyalenna sp., Junea dorinde Libytheana carinenta, Memphis laura, Morpho theseus, Myscelia cyaniris, ReginaNessaea, Athalina Olería, Pedaliodes ca. triAryan, Pereute callinice and Protographium leucaspis.  The life zones with a greater number of butterfly species were the Tropical humid Forest (bh-T), Premountain humid Forest (bh-P) and Lower Mountain in humid Forest (bh-MB), and the life zones with the lowest number species were the Lower Mountain Very humid Forest (bmh-MB) and Mountain pluvial Forest (bp.M).
