Abstract

The Río Manso natural reserve in the municipality of Norcasia (Department of Caldas), is a tropical dry forest with transition to wet forest with exceptional ecological value. This paper summarizes the potential to justify their conservation and management selecting two groups of Coleoptera insects from the Scarabaeidae (dung beetles of the Scarabaeinae subfamily) and Carabidae families as models for the diagnosis of quality in this ecosystem. The methods used included pitfall traps, black light traps, interception nets, entomological nets and hand collection. The entomological material collection took place from December 2010 to December 2011. The results allowed comparing the forest with anthropically treated system (pasture) through alpha and beta. diversity indexes. In the samples there were twelve species of the Scarabaeinae subfamily and four morph species; the Dichotomiini tribe represented by the genus Ateuchus, Canthidium, Dichotomius and Ontherus was the most diverse, while the Eurysternini tribe contrasted with the Eurysternus genus and an only species: E. foedus. The Carabidae family was represented by ten genders located in eight tribes; the most abundant genus was Calosoma in contrast to Agra that presented an only specimen. Alpha diversity (a) for the forest was a = 16, while for the pasture presented a value of a = 6. Beta diversity for the pasture and forest was 62.5%
