Abstract

The creation of events related to the presentation rather than representation has been one of the theater fundamental searches that still bring us together today. In this way, action understood as a movement, the deconstruction of failure of the work or the writer power and the encounter of a middle more than of a beginning or an end, are some of the variables that make part of the processes of those who have addressed this concern, that might be called, theater trend in an attempt to build roads linking with the early avant-garde principles or at least resistant to the work that had been developed before their appearance. But this search for “presentation” does not correspond to this historical moment, and even less just to theater. We found that the American Action Painting started some work about performance, action and isolation of the narrative, which certainly have influenced other trends, movements or artistic expressions. Without establishing a direct link between this gesual painting and postdramatic theater, this paper defends the fact that there are points in which the two expressions coincide, reason why their review is suggested. It is important to clarify that the essay corresponds to an exercise that opens a discussion and in no way it is the result of an investigation or corresponds to a conclusive writing on the topics discussed.
