Abstract
From 2010 a research project was created with the theater costumes collection from the Colon Theater in Bogota thanks to a mutual agreement between the LCI (LaSalle College Institute) - Bogotá and the Ministry of Culture. The project is supported by the LCI’s Research Incubator, and aims to preserve and promote tangible memory of the theater costumes of that theater.
From the very beginning, the recovery has focused on the classification, cataloging and searching for information and documentation on the history of these garments, work in which students and teachers join forces and have the opportunity, not only to approach the theater world, but also to enrich and learn from the different areas of the project.
Photographs, hand programs, videos, interviews and printed materials that have been found, are a cornerstone for the advance in cataloging and memory of these garments. These costumes are an important part of the cultural memory of the country and require restoration and complementary processes to recover their value again.
The diffusion of these advances through exhibitions leads the way to propose the starting of a Virtual Museum which embraces all these items to be stored, maintained and valued as an important part of Colombian cultural heritage, and also that the professions, instead of disappearing, be rescued , learned and reproduced.
