RESUMEN: El factor de crecimiento similar a insulina (IGF-I), juega un importante papel en la reproducción del ganado bovino, en aspectos relacionados con la fertilidad, actuando como una señal de monitoreo de los eventos reproductivos cuando están dadas todas las garantías nutricionales requeridas para la reproducción. El IGF-I puede ser usado como un examen de selección de potencial reproductivo especialmente para vacas de alta producción lechera cuya capacidad reproductiva se vea afectada. Sin embargo, el IGF-I no es pronosticador de eventos reproductivos, pero sí un indicador indirecto de la capacidad de un animal para lograr reproducirse, por lo que este factor de crecimiento no sería de aplicación clínica en la industria ganadera pero sigue siendo importante en el estudio de la relación entre nutrición y reproducción. El propósito de este escrito es mostrar varios estudios que soportan la importancia del IGF-I en la reproducción de la hembra bovina y su relación con la nutrición.
